Harlequins Rugby Club is thrilled to announce that club captain and England international Alex Dombrandt has signed a long-term contract extension, ensuring his continued role at The Stoop. This extension adds to a string of key contract renewals at the club, as Harlequins continue to secure the future of their top players.
Dombrandt, 27, has been a central figure for Harlequins since joining from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2018. The number eight has made 144 appearances for the club, scoring an impressive 76 tries. His dynamic performances have been integral to Harlequins’ successes, including their memorable Premiership title victory in the 2020-21 season, where Dombrandt played a pivotal role in the final against Exeter Chiefs.

In addition to his club success, Dombrandt’s international career has flourished. He has earned 20 caps for England, debuting in 2021, and became a key player in the England set-up. His leadership qualities were recognised in the summer of 2024 when he succeeded Stephan Lewies as Harlequins’ club captain, a role in which he has excelled, steering his team through a competitive Premiership season.
Dombrandt’s decision to extend his stay at Harlequins comes after a series of notable contract renewals, with fellow internationals Marcus Smith and Fin Baxter also committing their futures to the club. The club has made it clear that retaining homegrown talent is a priority, and Dombrandt’s extension is a significant part of that strategy.
Speaking about his decision, Dombrandt said, “This is a club that I love, and I think we’re going places with the players we have in the squad and the coaching staff. The support from the fans is incredible, and it’s an honour to be captain of a club I hold so close to my heart. I’m looking forward to helping lead this team to even greater success in the years ahead.”
Head coach Tabai Matson has praised Dombrandt’s leadership, professionalism, and contribution to the team, saying, “Alex is a top-quality player, and his leadership both on and off the field has been outstanding. He is an exceptional talent and a true Harlequin, and we are thrilled he will be with us for the long term.”
Dombrandt’s renewal is a clear indication of the club’s ambition to build a successful, homegrown squad, and his continued leadership will play a crucial role in Harlequins’ future successes.
