Leicester Tigers are pleased to announce that tighthead prop Will Hurd has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay at Welford Road.
Hurd, 25, hails from Leicestershire and began his rugby journey at Ashby RFC. While eligible to represent Scotland through his maternal grandparents, he has played for Scotland at various youth levels and made his senior debut earlier this year.
Hurd’s path to Leicester began after impressing in University Rugby, followed by a brief spell at Glasgow. He joined the Tigers ahead of the 2020/21 season and has since made 44 appearances for the club, beginning with his debut against Connacht in the Challenge Cup that season. Working alongside seasoned tighthead props such as Dan Cole and Joe Heyes at Oval Park, Hurd has continued to develop his skills.
Reflecting on his new deal, Hurd said, “I’m delighted to be staying at the club. Over the last 12 months, I’ve achieved some big goals, and Leicester has played a massive role in that. I know I still have a lot of growth ahead of me, and there’s no better place than Leicester to continue my development.”
Head coach Michael Cheika expressed his satisfaction with Hurd’s continued commitment, saying, “We’re very happy that Will has chosen to extend his time with the club. He has shown excellent competition in what is a very competitive position, and his growth has been impressive. Will has already played international rugby this summer, and we’re thrilled that his future is here at Tigers.”
